Its body serves as an incubator of many small parasites. It will never metamorphose due to its parasites and the parasites will not kill the host since they depend on it. The parasites will swarm over anything it touches, so predators avoid it.

It is based on a caterpillar that has been infected with wasp larva. I toned down the creepiness a lot from the original concept in this one. I've known about parasite wasp larva for a long time, but I was inspired to make this when I recently watched a YouTube video about it.
This is honestly one of the most disturbing things I've based a monster on.
